Blue Level Instructors
Brian Benny (Benny) is a Holmes Run lifeguard. Benny was a competitive swimmer on his high school team for 3 years and is a former Open Water Survival Trainer for the U.S. Marine Corps where he was on active duty for eight-years. Benny is Ellis certified for Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, and First Aid. He is a rising Junior in College. I am 28 years old, I was a Active duty Marine for 8 years. Benny has a 5 year old daughter who he enjoys teaching swimming. He is also an experienced surfer.
Emily Borders has over 10 years of experience teaching as a certified Red Cross Swim Instructor, as well as five years lifeguarding, and three years coaching a summer swim team. Emily was a competition swimmer from age 7 through high school and swam at the state championship level. She coached and taught swimming throughout college and grad school, including for Fairfax County Park Authority. She has continued her own learning through US Masters Swimming as an adult. She has two children on the HRA Hurricanes and is a certified stroke and turn judge. She has worked professionally as an occupational therapist for FCPS for 15 years. Emily’s academic background (BS in kinesiology/ psychology; MS in occupational therapy) had grounded her in the detailed study of human movement, so she is well-equipped to help swimmers looking to hone techniques, such as starts, turns, troubleshooting DQs, breaking down stroke techniques, streamlining and efficiency.
Red Level Instructors
Annabel Sullivan is a certified lifeguard at Holmes Run pool. She is a member of the Holmes Run Hurricanes swim team and has been swimming competitively for nine years. She also swims for Falls Church High School and VLAC swim club in the winter. Annabel has been coaching year round for two years and greatly enjoys working with kids; helping them to both learn to swim and work on stroke development and technique. Annabel has an Ellis certification in Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, and First Aid. Annabel is a rising sophomore, and is very excited to be working with you this summer!
Casey Tripp has been a part of the Holmes Run Pool community for 12 years, and the HRA swim team for 11 years.. She is a newly authorized Swim Instructor. Casey has been a junior coach for 4 years during the summer and winter season. Casey loves to work with the Tropical Storms and younger swimmers but also enjoys working with the older kids. She is Ellis certified for Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, and First Aid. Casey is a rising junior at Falls Church High school, and a resident of Holmes Run Acres.
Champe Mitchell has been swimming with the HRA Hurricanes since 2015, and also swims for Victory Lane Aquatic Club in the fall, winter and spring. He is currently junior coaching for the Hurricanes and Tropical Storms for his second summer, and coached throughout the winter for HRARA as well. Champe really enjoys teaching the sport of swimming to younger kids. He is adept at connecting with the kids and making swimming fun, while also keeping them focused on the drills that help them improve. Champe is a rising freshman who lives in Annandale. In addition to swimming, he enjoys baseball, ninja/parkour, camping & hiking, and magic.
David Lyons has represented the HRA Hurricanes in NVSL “A” meets and Divisionals every summer since he was 6 years old, and swims for Victory Lane Aquatic Club in the fall, winter and spring seasons. He is proficient in all four strokes and the Individual Medley, and a member of the 13-14yo relay teams that broke two long-standing HRA records this year. David was a Junior Coach for the Holmes Run Hurricanes this summer. He is currently Assistant Senior Patrol Leader for Boy Scout Troop 987 and has enjoyed working with younger Scouts as a Den Chief and New Scout Quest leader. David will be a freshman at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in 2018-19 and hopes to compete in varsity swimming, cross-country, and soccer.
Erik Judy is a swimmer for the Holmes Run Acres swim team and the Falls Church High School swim team. He has had 9 years of experience in swimming competitively, and 2 years of coaching. Erik has swam for the VLAC club team during the winter season for nearly 3 years. He has participated in the Junior Olympics winter meet as well as NVSL All Stars. Erik is certified in advanced child care and is currently working on being certified as a lifeguard and CPR certified. He is a rising sophomore at Falls Church High School and would love to teach members how to swim or get better at the sport.
